The side quests – the habit changers

The side quests – the habit changers

So we have the main quest. The quest of going zero to hero. But no RPG is complete without side quests.

In this post, I’ll explain what sidequests are, what my plans are, and what is coming up next week.
Side quests will be habit changers. It takes approximately 66 days to form a new habit. This means that because I am ambitious I will introduce a new habit and review my progress once every month. The goal is to have formed at least some good habits and broken some bad ones by the end of the year.

I want to change a lot of things about myself. Here’s a list of habits I either want to form or want to break:

  • Procrastination – THE ABSOLUTE BIGGEST ONE
  • My sugar addiction – self-explanatory
  • Wickedly horrible lack of sleep schedule – need stability
  • Only brushing teeth once per day – come on dude, we were taught this in middle school
  • Lack of proper training regimen

These are some of the habits I want to tackle this year. There are more habits for sure but I feel like these are the direst to change. Along with my main quest of discovery and growth, I will also report on progress on my side quests. Without further ado, my first sidequest is to fix this sleep schedule. Starting Monday I will be getting up at 8 am every day!

I have studied a few resources which I’ll link below but the general gist of is. I need 7-9 hours of sleep. In the beginning, I am going to try 7 hours of sleep. That means I “need” to be asleep at 1 am at the latest. This means that I will be a walking zombie until I manage to force my body to get up at this hour. To further reinforce this habit I will also start the day with breakfast and brushing of teeth!

The plan is to give a weekly or at least a bi-weekly update on these sidequests. I hope you’ll enjoy watching me fumble around these life changes. One step at a time!
